By looking back to Bulgakov’s short story Diaboliad (1924), an absurd satire of an oppressive regime, that also leverages a fictional ‘hall of columns’ motif. The image visualises bureaucratic control as a speculative architectural environment, reflecting on the hall and its “overtones of aggressive presence.” (Cook, 2026, p.110)
